April Zoo Trip 2008

It was another beautiful day at the Memphis Zoo. The weather was perfect. The komodo dragon wanted a couple of little boys for lunch.

Carter's First Track Season

Carter ran track with the Shelby County Youth Sports this spring. He had a great time and learned a lot. The first picture is from his first meet when it was so cold and damp that the kids were allowed to run with their sweats. The middle picture is from the Championship Meet. It was the Parade of Athletes. The last picture is from the banquet after Carter had received his trophy.

My first Flickr slideshow

I've seen other bloggers place a slideshow of photos on their sites so I wanted to give it a try. I like it since it allows us to post a lot more pictures with less work and it also uses less page space. Let us know what you think!

Easter 2008

Here comes Erek Cottontail!! Erek had fun with his bunny ears and loved posing for pictures.

The boys had a blast dying the Easter eggs. Fortunately all the dye stayed in the cups or on the eggs.

Erek and his girlfriend Kate before the egg hunt. It was about 40 degrees and yes, Erek is in shorts and short sleeves.

The boys had fun looking for eggs but were glad when it was time to get in the car with the heat.

After the egg hunt, we went home to finish getting ready for Easter brunch with friends and family.

Daytona Beach

The beach!! The beach!! We're finally here!!

The boys were so excited to be out of the car and at the beach. It was wonderful to listen to the waves. We did this for very short periods of time as we were afraid that our youngest would try to climb over the railing and fall 10 flights trying to get to the waves.

After getting settled into the hotel we head out to find seafood. Of course our monkeys had crabby patties and nuggets, but mom and dad dove in with the seafood. Yum, yum!!

We were among the first to get set up with our chairs and umbrellas. Fortunately the boys have just as much fun in the sand as they do in the water. If they go out into the water they have to go with daddy since mom won't go in further than her ankles. We all had a wonderful day of fun in the sun.

After our fun in the sun we drove to Orlando. We went to Downtown Disney to check things out. The boys enjoyed seeing all the lego sculptures. They were a little upset that the Dinosaurs exhibit wasn't open yet.

On our way to dinner with Nanny we pasted this mailbox. Beth made Richard turn the car around so she could take the picture.

Jacksonville, Florida

On our way from Atlanta to Daytona Beach we stop off in Jacksonville and visited this playground.

The boys had a lot of fun. They got to run off some of their energy from being in the car. This park also had a water park area that looked like it would be great fun in the warm weather.

More Atlanta

Upon arrival to Atlanta we headed straight for the famous Varsity for lunch.

Carter enjoyed his crabby patty.

Erek's "naked dog" wasn't naked enough. :)

After driving around we headed to an indoor pool. The coolest part according to Carter was the slide that went outside the building and back in to the pool.

Dinner at The Orient Express.

The boys and Mom and Dad enjoyed dinner on The Orient Express. The Express was near our hotel. The boys thought it was cool to eat on an actual train car.

The guys enjoying a neighborhood playground.

Georgia Aquarium

Our Spring Break adventures started out in Atlanta. Thankfully we missed the tornado and the tornado missed the aquarium. Carter had been talking about seeing the whale sharks for months. All four of us were excited about seeing all the animals but especially the whale sharks.

The four whale sharks were beautiful. It was so neat to watch them up close.

Our budding photographers with their own digital cameras. Thanks Granmere!

The boys, all 3, enjoyed touching the rays and sharks in the petting pools. They also were able to pet horseshoe crabs, starfish, sea anemone, and shrimp. Carter, our marine biologist, knew all the answers to the questions during the pre-show time before the movie.

We all had a wonderful time and highly recommend the Georgia Aquarium. We were amazed that Mr. Whaleshark did not want a whale shark from the gift store. He picked out a stingray and Erek picked out a boat for the tub. The gift store also had a video about the journey of acquiring the 4 whale sharks. It was very interesting and informative.

The Big Snow of '08

On March 7th , the snow began. As most Memphians panic, schools were closed early to make sure everyone arrived home safe and sound. Saturday morning the boys had us up and out in the snow by 8 am. The boys loved it. By noon it was all gone and by Sunday we were wearing shorts and sandels. I'm sure all our Yankee friends and family are laughing at our "big" snow. At least it wasn't ice this year.

Carter's 7th Birthday Extravaganzas

This week we celebrated Carter's birthday. Then we celebrated it again. And then one final time. On Sunday we celebrated at home with family and friends. We had Carter's favorites chicken tenders and mashed potatoes. All homemade by Richard. We had a few other dishes for everyone else to enjoy. We finished off Sunday's dinner with cake and ice cream. This year Carter requested a whale shark. So here's Beth attempt at a whale shark cake. He liked it and that's all that matters.

On Tuesday, the day, Richard surprised Carter with lunch at school. Carter shared cookies and juice with his class. After school and work Carter, Erek, Mom, and Dad went for a steak dinner. After dinner Grandmere came by for cake and presents. Carter loved his presents and Erek tried to become one.

On Saturday, March 1, we had Carter's party. This year the festivities took place at The Incredible Pizza Company. If you don't have one think of Chuck E. Cheese on steroids and for all ages. The kids and parents had a blast. Some of you may be thinking...wait isn't March 1 someone else's birthday...yes:) I graciously shared my day with Carter.
